Christmas crafting is in full swing! One project I'm making right now, are some ornaments to sell at our 4-H club's fundraiser coming up soon. I wanted to make some EPP (English paper piecing) stars and researched high and low for some the size I wanted, and then realized I could make my own! So I got to work on Illustrator making diamonds for my EPP stars and stumbled upon a diamond shape that would let me make either a 5-pointed star or a 6-pointed star depending on which way I turned the diamond. (Yes, I tricked myself into doing math.)

I'm not going to gate keep math, so I've put the pdf down below as a free download. I recommend printing the diamonds out on card stock, but you can print on whatever you prefer. Please, make as many stars as you want!
Stuff you need to make your own star ornaments:
- fabric scraps
- diamonds all cut out
- thread & needle
- glue stick (optional for basting fabric on the diamonds)
- string or ribbon for hanging
- felt for backing
- Optional: bells or other doodads to sew on the points for decoration
- Cut your fabric to about 1/4 bigger than the paper diamond.
- Baste the fabric onto the diamond by using a needle and thread or using a glue stick.
- Once you have 5-6 stars you can start sewing them together at each diamond edge. Align the points with the star icon that matches the star the you're making.
- Once all edges are sewn together, sew the star onto a piece of felt, or other non-fraying fabric. Place a ribbon or string at one of the points between the star and backing to have a hanger.

I think after I'm done making a handful of ornaments for the fundraiser, I'm thinking I'm going to make a few to appliqué on a tree skirt or a sweatshirt. It would be so cool to make a garland of stars to string on your mantle. I'm sure you have a few cool places to put some of these stars too.
Let me know if you made some and how you used them!! Tag @cottonandochre on instagram so I can see!
